Philippines Independence Day – Araw ng Kalayaan (Pilipinas)

Last year, on June 12th, 2016 we were in Toronto, Canada celebrating the Philippine Independence Day. Filipino-Canadians gather at Toronto City Hall’s Nathan Phillips Square to raise the Philippine Flag with the most Honorable Mayor John Tory of Toronto and some Filipino officials from the Consul Office and Filipino Organizations in Toronto.  Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

There’s also a parade to celebrate the memorable day and then a huge picnic at the Earl Bales Park this weekend. There are programs of Filipino dances exhibition, Filipino songs and everybody brings their own picnic food or buy from the vendors at the park offering native dishes. Some of the politicians join in the celebration and the Philippine Consul is also at the park celebrating with lots of the Filipino-Canadians in attendance on this sunny and breezy Sunday afternoon picnic celebration at the park.
